The Library Foundation, Inc. supports and enhances services of the Campbell County Public Library System through the following activities:
- Solicit gifts, memorials, endowments
- Administer gift funds
- Develop sources of fund-raising
- Purchase unusual or needed items for the library
- Sponsor educational and cultural programs
- Maintain and enhance the fine art collection
- Subsidize staff related activities
- Provide and maintain computers for public use
- Enhance the Wyoming Room audio and video sound systems
- Provide Christmas decorations
- Fund library promotions
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of civic-minded citizens who feel the library is important to the community, a Library Board representative and the Library Director. It is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation for literacy and educational pursuits.

From 1971 until 1976, the Library Board purchased several pieces of original fine art. Realizing that public funds could not continue to sustain the fine art collection they had envisioned, the Campbell County Library Foundation was organized.
The Foundation held its first meeting in December, 1976. By January, the paperwork with the Secretary of State and Clerk of Court had been completed and by March 1st, revenue of $706 was recorded. The Library Board members also served as the members of the Foundation Board who continued to purchase original art for the collection and to receive funds for memorial donations for books. IRS 501 (c) (3) status was received soon after.
By the late 70s, the Foundation had begun to manage the copy machines for public use and to expand into soliciting funds for special programs. Mobil Coal was a generous and consistent donor.
When the new library on 4-J Road was constructed, the Foundation provided half of the funding ($30,000) for the sculpture that adorns the front lawn, “Campbell County Crossroads.” They also provided funding for the reception during the opening of the building, as well as other social events for the library over the next few years.
By 1989, it seemed prudent that the Campbell County Library Board, duly appointed by the County Commissioners to administer mill levy funds for the library, and the Campbell County Library Foundation, an incorporated public charity, part ways. So in 1990, the Foundation began the process of selecting members of a board that would be independent of the library board and applied to change the name of the organization to The Library Foundation, Inc.
As The Library Foundation, Inc., this group has accepted a larger role in providing services to the public that would not be met with the strict use of county funds.
The Library Foundation, Inc. raises funds for the library in several ways, the best known is the annual used book sale. This event generates revenue used provide assistance for your libraries with author, artist and art visits; fine art collection and maintenance; copy machines, new books and furniture for public use; as well as various other things.

|In 1984 the Library Foundation, Inc. purchased the painting “Boss Buck” by Bob Kuhn. It is one of the most popular items in the fine art collection, prompting the Library Foundation, Inc. to sell poster reprints. The cost is $100. Visit Kuhn’s Nhuk to view more of Bob Kuhn’s animal art.|
